BKOR Walks: Reconstruction Art & Architecture Tour – Pendrecht to Hart van Zuid.
Sunday, 17 May, 11.30–13.30 | Free

BKOR invites you to an art walk reflecting on the post-war reconstruction art and architecture from Pendrecht to Zuidplein.

During the 'Opbouwdagen' walk, the programme reflecting on Rotterdam’s post-war reconstruction after the bombing of 14th May 1940, we walk through Pendrecht, a neighbourhood reimagined after the war by Lotte Stam-Beese. Here, light, space and greenery are no coincidence.

Art is everywhere in the neighbourhood: on façades, in entranceways and on squares. Sometimes it has been there from the beginning, sometimes it was added later. We see it, once we know where to look.

Looking consciously together.

Led by art guide Anne-Marie Ros and with contributions from Ove Lucas (Director of CBK Rotterdam), who will show us how this art is still part of the city today.

Along the way, we will pass the Sint-Bavokerk and other places where architecture, art, and daily life come together. We meet Karla Kaper at her monumental concrete relief in Slinge metro station.

We encounter art by Loeki Metz, Bob Zijlmans, and Gerard Héman, among others, as well as by a younger generation, including Sarianne Breuker, Anuli Croon, Stang Gubbels, Milou van Ham, and Ben Zegers.
